Senior Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) Engineer

Henniges Automotive North America, Inc., a Tier-1 supplier of sealing systems for the automotive industry, seeks a Senior Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) Engineer, in Auburn Hills, Michigan, for high-level elastomeric sealing system analysis, innovation, and virtual validation, including simulation of product performance and development of simulation capabilities. This position is the face of the company on all internal and external customer relationships relating to CAE work. Duties: improve simulation methods by developing new FEA material models and analysis techniques, and by correlating experimental data with analysis results; regular customer interaction to clarify technical specifications and defend simulation results; seek application of CAE to new areas, such as manufacturing process modeling, to improve quality and lower costs; use CAE to collaborate in development of advanced engineering and innovation projects; use MSC/Mentat FEA pre-processor to build 2D and 3D finite element models of vehicle seals and sealing environments; use MSC Marc FEA Solver to analyze geometry, materials, load history, and boundary conditions for automotive seals; interpret FEA results for part performance relative to product engineering design goals, and suggest modifications in materials, design, and vehicle environment; perform Design of Experiments to optimize product performance; develop educational materials on CAE, and train and mentor technical team in CAE methods.


Minimum education and experience required: Master degree in Engineering or foreign equivalent degree + 3 years’ experience in a mechanical engineering or product engineering position, or Bachelor degree in Engineering or foreign equivalent degree + 5 years’ experience in a mechanical engineering or product engineering position. Special requirements: Education must include 1 semester of Finite Element Techniques. Must have 3 years’ experience in each of the following: non-linear analysis of elastomers using MSC Marc/Mentat software; analysis of vehicle seals or sealing systems, and formulation of recommendations for improvement; developing product design enhancements for vehicle seals. Experience may be acquired concurrently.
